Not much here yet, I'm afraid, except: The announcement of the formation of SOBAR The infant form of the IcePie Book Of Brown Ale The list of the 29 known British bottled browns : could you be the first to try them all? The SOBAR spotter's form for recording (and reporting?) where you found some brown and if it was any good. (I suggest printing the above two onto A5 for pocketability) For now, I suggest brown ale discussions take place on one or several of: uk.rec.sheds alt.beer rec.food.drink.beer uk.food+drink.real-ale I'll look into setting up a mailing list. Might be fun. Subjects for discussion will centre mainly (at first) on what's available, where, and if it's any good. It seems to me that some Scotch ales can be considered as versions of brown. They share certain characteristics, such as the type of malt, or so I understand from an old homebrew book I have. What about Mild, the northerner's nearest equivalent? Many of the 'Strong Ales' are quite dark: but are they Brown?
